Course Reports provide detailed analysis of skills distribution across different sections of individual courses. These reports help you understand how skills coverage varies between instructors, identify gaps in curriculum delivery, and compare teaching approaches across course sections.

What Course Reports Show You

Course Reports analyze skills at the section level, giving you insights into:
  • Skills coverage across different course sections
  • Instructor variations in how skills are taught
  • Proficiency levels for each skill in each section
  • Teaching consistency across multiple sections of the same course
Course Reports work with sections that have processed syllabi. Skills are extracted from syllabus content using AI analysis, then mapped to standardized skill categories.

Before You Start

To generate meaningful course reports, you’ll need:
  • A course with multiple sections (though single-section reports work too)
  • Processed syllabi for the course sections you want to analyze
  • Skills data extracted from those syllabi
If you don’t see skills data in your reports, make sure your course sections have uploaded syllabi that have been processed through the skills extraction system.

Accessing Course Reports

1

Navigate to Reports

From your dashboard, click on Reports in the main navigation menu.
2

Select Course Reports Tab

Click on the Course tab to access course-level analysis tools.
3

Choose Your Course

Use the course dropdown to select the specific course you want to analyze.
You can optionally filter by program first to narrow down your course options if you have many courses.
4

Select Report Type

Choose between two visualization types:
  • Course Section Heat Map - Visual grid showing skill coverage intensity
  • Course Section Comparison - Side-by-side bar chart comparison

Understanding Report Types

Course Section Heat Map

The Heat Map provides a color-coded grid that shows skill proficiency levels across all course sections at a glance. Reading the Heat Map:
  • Red (Levels 1-2): Limited coverage of the skill
  • Orange (Level 3): Moderate coverage of the skill
  • Green (Levels 4-5): Extensive coverage of the skill
  • Gray: Skill not taught in that section
Best for:
  • Quick visual assessment of skills gaps
  • Identifying which sections need curriculum support
  • Spotting patterns across multiple instructors
The Heat Map requires skills data from processed syllabi. If sections appear empty, verify that syllabi have been uploaded and processed.

Course Section Comparison

The Comparison chart displays horizontal bar charts showing exact proficiency levels for each skill across sections. Reading the Comparison:
  • Bars show proficiency levels (1-5 scale)
  • Different colors represent different course sections
  • “Not covered” indicates skills not taught in specific sections
  • Legend identifies which color represents which section
Best for:
  • Detailed analysis of specific skill levels
  • Comparing instructor approaches side-by-side
  • Identifying exact proficiency gaps between sections

Analyzing Your Data

Identifying Skills Gaps

Look for patterns in your reports:
  1. Skills taught by only some sections - May indicate inconsistent curriculum delivery
  2. Low proficiency levels (1-2) across sections - Skills that need more emphasis
  3. High variation between sections - Opportunities for instructor collaboration

Comparing Instructor Approaches

Course Reports help you understand how different instructors teach the same course:
  • Comprehensive instructors show green/high levels across many skills
  • Specialized instructors may show deep coverage in fewer skill areas
  • Consistent sections have similar patterns across skills
Use Course Reports to facilitate discussions between instructors about curriculum alignment and best practices.
