Before You Start

Instructors in Mapademics represent the faculty members who teach course sections. Each instructor can be assigned to multiple course sections, and their information is used for reporting and analytics to understand teaching loads and skills coverage across your institution.
Instructors are assigned at the course section level, not the course level. This allows for precise tracking of who teaches specific sections of the same course.

Key Instructor Features

One instructor can teach multiple course sections, and each section can only have one assigned instructor. Sections can also remain unassigned if needed.

Steps

Adding a New Instructor

Navigate to Instructors

From the main navigation, click Academic Data > Instructors to view your instructor list.

Create New Instructor

Click the Add Instructor button in the top-right corner of the page. A new instructor row will appear with default name “New Instructor”.

Edit Basic Information

Click directly in the Name field and enter the instructor’s full name. The changes save automatically when you click outside the field.

Add Notes (Optional)

Use the Notes field to add any relevant details about the instructor such as:
  • Department affiliation
  • Areas of expertise
  • Teaching preferences
  • Contact information beyond email

Editing Instructor Information

Find Your Instructor

Navigate to Academic Data > Instructors and locate the instructor you want to edit in the table.

Edit Inline

Click directly in any editable field (Name or Notes) to make changes. Updates save automatically when you move to another field.

Access Detailed View

Click the View button next to an instructor’s name to open their detailed profile page with additional information and section assignments.

Assigning Instructors to Course Sections

Navigate to Course Sections

Go to Academic Data > Courses, then click on a specific course to view its sections.

Select a Course Section

In the Course Sections panel, click on the section you want to assign an instructor to.

Choose Instructor

In the section detail view, find the Instructor dropdown menu and select the instructor you want to assign to this section.

Save Assignment

Click the Save Section button to confirm the instructor assignment.
If you don’t see an instructor in the dropdown, make sure they have been created in the Instructor Management page first.

Removing Instructor Assignments

Open Course Section

Navigate to the specific course section where you want to remove the instructor assignment.

Clear Instructor Selection

In the Instructor dropdown, select the empty option at the top to unassign the current instructor.

Save Changes

Click Save Section to confirm the instructor has been unassigned from this section.

Deleting Instructors

Check Section Assignments

Before deleting, ensure the instructor is not assigned to any course sections. Check the Course Sections column in the instructor table.

Remove All Assignments

If the instructor is assigned to sections, you must first unassign them from all sections following the steps above.

Delete Instructor

Once the instructor has no section assignments, click the Delete button (trash icon) next to their name in the instructor table.
You cannot delete instructors who are currently assigned to course sections. The delete button will be disabled until all section assignments are removed.

After Adding Instructors

  • Assignment Ready: New instructors immediately become available in course section assignment dropdowns
  • Reporting Integration: Instructor data flows into analytics and reporting systems
  • Bulk Operations: Instructors can be included in bulk data import operations

After Assigning Instructors to Sections

  • Skills Association: Section-specific skills extracted from syllabi are associated with the assigned instructor
  • Analytics Tracking: Instructor teaching loads and skills coverage become visible in reports
  • Course Navigation: Instructor names appear throughout the course management interface

Viewing Instructor Analytics

Access Reports

Navigate to Reports & Analytics from the main menu.

Select Instructor Reports

Choose the Instructors tab to access instructor-specific analytics.

Configure Report Settings

Select both an instructor and a course to view detailed heat maps and skills analysis for that instructor’s teaching assignments.

Analyze Teaching Data

Review the course section heat map to understand skills coverage and identify patterns in the instructor’s teaching approach.

Bulk Importing Instructors

For organizations with many instructors, use the bulk import feature:

Prepare Your Data

Create an Excel file with columns for instructor names, emails, and notes. Refer to the bulk import templates for the exact format.

Access Bulk Import

Navigate to Data Import & Integration > Bulk Data Import from the main menu.

Upload Instructor Data

Select your Excel file and follow the import wizard to review and resolve any conflicts with existing instructor records.

Complete Import

Confirm your import settings and let the system process your instructor data. All imported instructors will be immediately available for section assignments.
